About Camp Roberts

For nearly fifty years, our summer day camps at Camp Roberts have provided a safe haven for children. Daily activities include Bible lessons, singing, crafts, swimming, and a variety of outdoor activities. We want children to have a personal experience, and our goal is to hire one counselor per five children.

Children who attend camp have completed kindergarten through sixth grade at Lima City Schools. Grades are split into three groups, and each group has two weeks of camp. Many children come from broken homes; often there is only one parent, and some live with another relative. They are often accustomed to being around crime, substance abuse, and physical and verbal abuse—including possibly being subjected to those things.

Some children can be difficult to work with, which may feel overwhelming at times. There have been many stories over the years of behavioral issues that have faded away as the children who are hurting the most realize that someone cares about them. As Bible lessons are shared daily, children often seek counselors to ask follow-up questions, which provides an opportunity to further explain the gospel.

Your Impact

When you join our children's ministry team, you are making a lasting investment in the life of a child in need. We have been contacted many times over the years by adults who attended camp or after-school classes as a child and have told us about the impact it had and continues to have on their life. By committing to this ministry, you are answering God's call to proclaim the gospel.

Requirements for Service

The following are requirements for all children's ministry positions, whether paid or volunteer.

  • Must exemplify and model Christian behaviors and values, and be in agreement with the Lima Rescue Mission Statement of Faith
  • Able to clearly articulate the gospel message
  • Van drivers must have driving record that is acceptable to our insurance provider
  • Complete a background check with no offenses that would prohibit working with children

Volunteer Opportunities

Van Driver

Drive a full size van, following prescribed routes for morning pickup and afternoon drop-off. We ask that volunteers commit to as least one full week (Mon-Fri), as this helps us with scheduling. Van drivers must have a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance provider.

Cook

Prepare lunch and snacks, clean kitchen and dining areas. This can easily be completed by one person, but is also a good opportunity for church groups. (A church committing to provide or prepare/serve lunch for a week of camp would be a great local missions opportunity.)

Paid Opportunities

Camp Director
Part-time; seven weeks during summer

The camp director works directly with parents, children, and counselors who will be involved in the Camp Roberts summer day camp.

Camp Counselor
Part-time; seven weeks during summer

Camp counselors interact with children individually and in a group setting, and work closely with other counselors and the children's ministry coordinator to create a safe and fun environment where children are shown God's love.

Financial Support

Our children's ministry is supported entirely by donations. If you would like to help make this ministry possible, you may donate online.
