Everyone—at least, almost everyone—seems to have problems. What can you do with a problem?
A glance at "Dear Abby," or some other such column, will reveal something of the burdens that weigh on people, from the terrified teenager to the muddled middle-ager. Some of them are ridiculous, though they probably do not seem so to the bearer of the burden. Others are tragic. Myriads of the problems are somewhere in between, just ordinary, everyday problems. One fact stands out clearly—multitudes need someone to whom they can tell their troubles.
No one likes to endure a trial alone. The little one with a bump on his head will seek out his mother for a little TLC, and usually a kiss will take all the hurt out of the bump. The teenager, suffering the anguish of misunderstanding parents, will seek solace over a hamburger and Coke, pouring out his troubles to his best buddy. The young bride, finding the romance dimming in the mountain of dish-washing suds, yearns to share her disillusionment with her mother. We do not like to suffer alone. The urge to share our troubles is strong in all of us. Why, then, are people so hesitant about taking their troubles to the One who can really do something about them?
Human friends can share our burdens but outside of providing a kind, attentive ear, there is little they can do for us. Of course, just being able to talk out a problem has a therapeutic value. But how much better it would be to tell our troubles to Jesus, who can not only be a "burden sharer," but a "burden bearer." There are many advantages in taking our troubles to the Lord. We have the assurance that He wants to listen to us, and He will not be wearied by our oft-coming. Did not He say, "Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." "Him that cometh unto Me I will in no wise cast out." What gracious invitation! Here is a friend waiting for us to bring our burdens to Him. Here is One who is able to do something about our problems, and His ways are always right because, "He doeth all things well."
Do you have some burden that is weighing you down? Is there some problem filling your life with despair? If you have never trusted Him as your Savior, come to Jesus with your load of sin and He will take the burden from you. If you are His child, and there are problems in your life which you cannot solve, bring them to Jesus. Accept His invitation to come and lay all your heartaches at His feet and He will give you peace in exchange for your problems. Why does He do it? "Casting all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you."
